Great advice on finishing a book

Being in the middle of writing a book at this moment, I find like most writers the material beginning to sour.  Characters start to become uninteresting, scenes make no sense and I end up going off on tangents all over the place.  On the worst days, I stop writing completely and allow my inner demon convince me that I’m worthless and no good.Tim's website

So I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled across another writer’s website who talks about all these problems and how to overcome them.  He’s got kudos as well.  For a start he’s a published author of many books not a critic or someone who merely teaches writing so that counts for a lot in my book.  Secondly he’s been in the same situation I’m currently in and anyone who’s ever written a book finds themselves in at some point.  Thirdly his advice has challenged me to take a long deep look at the central idea of my first book and everything around it along with loads of ways to avoid letting my inner demon win and walk away from the computer or notepad.

I was supposed to be writing on my book this afternoon but found myself writing drivel and going off on tangents again.  So instead of throwing my laptop across the room in frustration or going off to get a dirty burger from the local kebab shop for comfort eating (usually I do this when drunk or sober – no one understands this, least of all me) I decided to try and find something to help me write.

And Tim’s site cropped up on my search.

I haven’t read any of his books but having read his guide to finishing a novel, I think I’m going to track some of his books down and give them a whirl.

Anyone who can keep me engaged on a ‘How to’ guide is worth a look as usually I find ‘How to’ guides on writing the most boring dull affairs ever.  Tim’s is not only interesting, it is entertaining.

If you’re a writer – check it out.  If you’re thinking of writing a book definitely check it out.  If like me you’re having trouble writing a book, bookmark Tim’s site on your browser now.   http://www.timothyhallinan.com
